When concussion symptoms persist for more than six weeks, the patient should seek evaluation and possible treatment for post-concussion syndrome. Patients may be seen by a neurologist, neurosurgeon, or neuropsychologist, depending on need. Imaging studies (MRI or CT scans) may be ordered if there is any reason to suspect complications.
Dr. Heidi A. Bender is an award-winning, board-certified neuropsychologist and the director of neuropsychological services at the Weill Cornell Medicine Brain and Spine Center. Dr. Amanda Sacks-Zimmerman is a clinical neuropsychologist specializing in cognitive remediation after brain trauma, including concussion and other mild traumatic brain injuries.
