Dr. Michael Apuzzo Joins Faculty

Dr. Michael L. J. Apuzzo has been appointed Adjunct Professor of Neurological Surgery at Weill Cornell Medicine Neurological Surgery. Dr. Apuzzo, a longtime faculty member of the Division of Neurosurgery at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, is an internationally renowned neurosurgeon who has led pioneering development in the fields of stereotactic radiosurgery, functional neurosurgery, and cerebral grafting, among others. He has more than 800 publications to his credit, including the highly influential Surgery of the Third Ventricle, Brain Surgery Complication Avoidance and Management, and Surgery of the Human Cerebrum.

Dr. Apuzzo’s career has principally focused on disorders of the human cerebrum and on the application of emerging technology and progressive neuroscience in creative and innovative methods to advance the field. He served as editor of the journal Neurosurgery for 19 years, during which time he founded  Neurosurgery Online and Operative Neurosurgery. At Weill Cornell Medicine Neurological Surgery, Dr. Apuzzo will mentor faculty, residents, fellows, and students and will be active in the Department of Neurological Surgery’s educational activities. He will act in a senior advisory capacity in the expansion of the Department’s radiosurgery program, the development of an Office of Academic Publishing, and ongoing projects with World Neurosurgery. In addition, he will serve in an advisory status to leadership for development of both clinical and laboratory neurosciences and will endeavor to further enhance existing aspects of international and global perspectives within the Department.
